WHO WE ARE

We are unapologetically:

  • Christian

  • Progressive

  • Inclusive

  • Justice Oriented

  • Eclectic

  • Methodists

Ministry is hard and takes a lot of bandwidth. We share that burden by working together, supporting one another, and sharing resources. As a collective, we are a group of passionate disciples who recognize that there is more than one way to do church.

Each chapter has its own leadership, demographic, and flavor. Together we run the collective and share in life-giving ministry with one another.

We know that "traditional church" and institutional religion has done a lot of harm in the world. So we work to meet outside of those spaces and bring the Gospel back to the people, just like Jesus did. Some of us are ministry workers, some of us are church goers, and some of us don't feel comfortable stepping inside a sanctuary. All of us have felt like something is missing or like we just didn't quite fit in.

At Open Space, you will fit in. Join us in a place where you aren't just welcomed, you're wanted.

WHAT WE DO

Cultivate spaces where you belong!

Each regional group is called a "Chapter".

Every Chapter is a little different. We made decisions based on the needs of our own communities. But we generally share a model. Here are some common terms you'll hear.

Monthly Gathering:

A monthly gathering is usually held at a local pub or pizza parlor. Sometimes a brave soul invites us into their home. Usually there is food involved. Each gathering has its own topic, that is often Values Based instead of explicitly Christian. (This helps us be a safer place for those who have been hurt by the church in the past)

Weekly Soul Check-in:

Some of our chapters gather weekly just to check in and see how we're doing. Common questions we ask one another are "How is your soul? and How is your life with God?" (remember, you don't have to share if you don't want to) Sometimes we'll lead into a bible study too.

Weekly Bible Study:

Some of our chapters gather weekly to study scripture more in depth. We usually start with a Soul-Check-in as well. You don't ever have to prepare for bible study or be a biblical scholar. Just come with an open mind!

We are a collective of Progressive Christians who really love Jesus, and sometimes take issue with the "traditional church" or institutional religion. But we won't let that ruin our faith!
